Cromwell Basin has by far Central Otago’s largest concentration of vineyards and wineries. Even more remarkable, the Cromwell basin is only around 35km long and about 15km wide.
Cromwell Basin produces world recognised Pinot Noir but also excellent Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon from grapes grown in schist soils created by glacial advance and retreat in a climate of cold winters and warm, dry summers.
Each vineyard has a New Zealand story to tell. Some have labels you will recognise, others you may not, but all show why the Cromwell Basin is producing world leading wines.
